Why PolyLEVEL and not Mudjacking?
One of the most common reasons for slab settlement is the condition of the soil beneath the slab. Some of the possible conditions that impact the slab are soil moisture, soil washout, or poorly compacted soil. The type of soil also makes a difference. A common soil type in the Southeast is clay based. Clay-based soil shrinks when it is dry and expands when moisture is added. An empty space can be created in the soil beneath the cement causing the slab to break, shift, or both.
A commonly used method of repair is mudjacking. This is a dated and messy method for lifting and leveling concrete. After drilling many holes, each around the size of a soda can, a mixture of cement mud is pumped under the slab. The mixture is very heavy, dirty, and often leaves behind a mess which cannot be cleaned up. The large holes made to inject the moisture are an eyesore when complete and the process takes multiple days to properly let the mixture settle. After time, the mixture may be eroded out from under the slab which leads back to the original problem.
A more stable and lasting option is to use PolyLEVEL. This is a new and modern way to raise and level concrete slabs. Instead of injecting a soil and cement mixture, a new slurry that uses high-density polymers and is injected beneath the soil. The holes drilled into the slab are limited and measure slightly larger than a dime. This makes the end result look more visually appealing. The PolyLEVEL material is lightweight and takes less time to install and cure. The cement slab can be walked or driven on about fifteen minutes after the installation. The material is also waterproof and has a great density so it does not wash out like the mudjacking mixture. Also, the mixture is environmentally friendly so it will not react underground with unstable soil.
