Overcoming Old Home Obstacles
Challenge
This house in Woodbine, Maryland is over 200 years old. It had a very unique basement, with multiple rooms at varying heights. This factor prevented a normal full perimeter system, as one of the rooms couldn't be connected. The slope of the property also presented a challenge to keep the water from flowing back towards the home. There were also obstacles in the basement, like a stairway and a water heater. The homeowners wanted to save their home and protect their stored items in the basement. The materials used to build this old home posed a challenge too, as they were different from modern construction practices.
Solution
These challenges were no match for the Fortress Foundation Solution team. Our system designer met with the homeowners, gave them a free estimate, and designed a thorough system to solve their leaky basement issues and fit their needs. Our crew installed the project, putting in two separate perimeter WaterGuard systems that protected both sections of the basement to compensate for the different heights of the rooms. Along with that, they installed a SuperSump Plus for each individual system. That required two discharge lines as well, that had to be extended over twenty feet from the home to compensate for the slope of the property. They navigated the other obstacles in the basement with TrenchDrain that keeps the system seamless while maneuvering around the hindrances. This family was ecstatic to have their home protected!
