Wall Cracks and Waterproofing in Woodsboro, MD
Challenge
A homeowner near Woodsboro, MD had vertical cracks on the outside of their foundation. Inside, the poured walls also had cracks and were allowing water to come in. This rendered the basement unusable as anything stored down there would get wet and moldy. Desperate for a solution, they called Fortress Foundation Solutions for a free estimate.
Solution
System Designer Chris Wilmouth went out to find a solution to this problem. He completed a full inspection. His recommendation was to install our WaterGuard Waterproofing System and a FlexiSpan for the basement wall crack. The first step in this system is to jack hammer a trench around the perimeter of the affected area. WaterGuard, our patented drainage pipe, is set in the trench with gravel and covered with concrete. The WaterGuard directs all water to the Super Sump sump pump.
To solve the problem of the leaking crack in the wall, our installers put up a Flexispan. The Flexispan is a flexible sealant that will never dry or crack and ensures a waterproof seal. It also 'flexes' with the movement of the basement walls during season changes. The process begins with a 2' section of the floor being carefully jack hammered down to the stone bed. Next, the area around the crack is ground down and the crack is covered with our Flexi-Caulk product. A specially designed material then goes over the crack and it is covered with more Flexi-Caulk using a special method. The area of application is then smoothed from the floor up. This product ties into the WaterGuard system that will direct any water coming in, down, into the WaterGuard and to the sump pump. Finally, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier is installed. This removes excess moisture from the air keeping the area dry. Now this homeowner has a safe, healthy downstairs area they can use as a positive living space again!
