Challenge
The problem with this crawl space was that the moisture levels were extremely high. The wood was beginning to rot, and growth of some sort was present. The concern with high humidity levels and growth is that the air from the crawl space is pushed upward through the rest of the house, which can never be a good thing with the possibility of mold growth. The homeowners were concerned and were looking for a permanent solution. They reached out to Fortress Foundation Solutions and a design specialist was sent to their home to address their concerns.
Solution
The solution for these homeowners in Gaithersburg was a full encapsulation of their crawl space. This includes Drainage Matting, CleanSpace, a Ultra sump pump, and a drain line. The Drainage Matting is designed to direct water on your flooded crawl space floor to your perimeter drain, in this case theUltra sump pump. CleanSpace was installed overtop the drainage matting which is a 20mil thick vapor barrier and is meant to keep water and moisture out of the crawl space. The Ultra sump pump is a system that adjusts automatically to meet pumping requirements and takes all of the water collected from the Drainage Matting and directs it outside to the drain line. This drain line is long and far enough away from the home to ensure the water does not return. All of these systems used together ensures a happy, healthy, and dry crawl space! Beautiful results!
