Crawl Space Repair Before & After Photos

This homeowner located in Penhook, VA contacted our Fortress team because he was interested in getting his crawl space encapsulated and also getting rid of that musty smell circulating throughout their crawl space. 

We had one of our Sytem Designers go out to the property to give a quote on our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System. This system made their crawl space into a cleaner, drier, healthier, and more energy-efficient space.

This homeowner contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions because they noticed that the floors in their home started sagging and there was a musty smell circulating throughout their home. Fortress went out to inspect the issues that they were having and informed the homeowner that their crawl space had been receiving water, which was causing the musty smell, and the floors had started sagging because the wood beams in their crawl space had started to rot. Fortress installed our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier along with our SmartJack Crawl Space Support System. Our SmartJacks provide solid support for sagging and undersized beams. 

Lydia F. of Hume, VA, called Fortress Foundation Solutions. She needed better access to her crawl space and wanted a free estimate for a new door. After completing his inspection, System Designer Paul Heckman provided a proposal for a heck-of-a-deal! Lydia was surprised to find that Fortress could remove part of the wall under a window and install a new door. The EverLast™ crawl space doors from Basement Systems are made from ½-in.-thick PVC plastic and are practically indestructible. Unlike wooden doors, EverLast™ doors will never warp, crack, shrink or require maintenance or painting. Heavy-duty weatherstripping provides an air and water tight seal. Once the installation knobs are tightened, the interior of your crawl space is fully isolated from exterior critters and conditions. Now Lydia can easily get into her crawl space and is confident it is well protected.

Ed M. of Boston, VA, called Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing musty smells coming from his crawl space. After investigating, he discovered mildew and moisture beginning to damage his wooden floor joists and falling down, moisture-saturated insulation. How could this be happening? He had laid down plastic over the ground and thought his crawl space would be protected. Many people don't think about the effects moisture has as it rises from the ground under their homes. After speaking with Sonny, Ed learned that the air in the crawl space flows upward into the home. He didn't want that musty, moldy air getting into his home and decided to move forward.

Soon a Fortress crew was onsite. They began by removing the old falling-down insulation. Next, they installed SilverGlo insulation on the walls. Drainage matting and CleanSpace Vapor Barrier were put down sealing off the ground from the home, reducing moisture. The final step, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier was added. It removes excess moisture from the air keeping mold, mildew and wood rot from forming. Now Ed knows the air flowing into his home is clean and healthy and his home is protected!
